Question by LeahMariiee: Direct TV “Searching for satellite signal in 1… (771)” help?
Alright so i know a lot of people have this problem and i tried fixing it all the ways they did but it still isn’t working.
First off you should know that i had a DVR receiver plugged in on the tv in my room and an HD receiver in the living room. Both work perfectly fine. I switched these because I got a new HD tv.
When i switched it the DVR receiver in the living room works perfectly but my tv in my room gets this message.
All the cables are set up right and i have tried taking them out and plugging it back in. i also tried changing channels and resetting it. Nothing works.
Anyone know how I could fix it?

Sounds as though your dish might have gotten knocked out of alignment.
You’ll have to call DirecTV and ask them for advice.

Your post is less than clear relative to EXACTLY what you did and rather the receiver or DVR is currently giving you this 771 error message.
I’m going to take a guess though that it is the DVR giving this error. Furthermore, I am going to guess that you have a SWM LNB (which means there is just one coax and no b band converters in use). If I am right on these guesses, then go disconnect the coaxial connection from the SAT 1 input and connect it to SAT 2.
Otherwise, the 771 error is simply telling you that you have not connected whatever receiver is giving the error correctly. I’ve seen people bend the center contact such that it does not make contact when they screw it in.
However, I’m betting it was the first item I noted, with an easy solution.
Can’t fix it without troubleshooting. Order this:

and a local, independent Directv installer will come out to help.
